Carburetor & Fuel Valve - Fuel TestUpdated a month ago
How to Check if Fuel Is Reaching the Carburetor
If your generator is not starting or appears to be starving for fuel, follow the steps below to confirm whether gasoline is reaching the carburetor and fuel valve.
⚠ Safety Notice:
Perform this test with the generator turned OFF, in a well-ventilated area, and keep fuel away from open flames or sparks.
Part 1: Check Fuel Flow to the Carburetor
Step 1: Locate the Carburetor Drain Screw
Find the carburetor float bowl located at the bottom of the carburetor (circled in the image).
At the bottom or side of the bowl, you will see a small drain screw.

Step 2: Loosen the Drain Screw
Use a screwdriver to slowly loosen the drain screw on the carburetor bowl.
When the screw is loosened:
Fuel should begin draining from the carburetor bowl
Step 3: Observe the Fuel Flow
Check whether fuel flows from the carburetor.
If fuel flows from the carburetor:
This confirms fuel is reaching the carburetor properly.
If no fuel comes out:
Fuel may not be reaching the carburetor, and the issue may be located earlier in the fuel system.
Step 4: Verify Carburetor Mounting
Another important check is to ensure the carburetor is properly secured to the air filter assembly.
To inspect:
Remove the air filter cover
Remove the air filter
Locate the two mounting bolts inside the air filter housing
Make sure these bolts are tight and secure, as loose bolts can cause air leaks and improper engine operation.
(See reference image showing the bolt locations.)

Part 2: Check Fuel Flow to the Fuel Valve
If no fuel is reaching the carburetor, the next step is to verify fuel flow through the fuel valve.
Step 5: Turn the Fuel Valve OFF
Before disconnecting any fuel lines, make sure the fuel valve is in the OFF position.
Step 6: Remove the Fuel Hose
Disconnect the fuel hose from the left side of the fuel valve.
Place a small container or rag underneath the hose to catch any fuel.
Step 7: Turn the Fuel Valve ON
Turn the fuel valve to the ON position and observe whether gasoline flows out.
If fuel flows from the hose:
Fuel is successfully passing through the fuel valve.
If no fuel comes out:
Fuel may not be reaching the valve, which could indicate an issue with the fuel selector switch or upstream fuel system.

Next Step if No Fuel Is Present
If no fuel is coming from the fuel valve, the next recommended step is to perform a:
Fuel Selector Switch Bypass Test: (CLICK HERE) Fuel Selector Switch Bypass Test
This will help determine whether the fuel selector switch is restricting fuel flow.
Possible Causes of Fuel Delivery Issues
Fuel flow problems may be caused by:
Blocked carburetor
Faulty fuel valve
Fuel selector switch malfunction
Clogged fuel lines
Empty or contaminated fuel tank

✅ Support Tip:
If fuel drains from the carburetor bowl, the fuel supply is working correctly and the issue may be related to carburetor clogging, ignition, or airflow rather than fuel delivery.
