Spark Plug Maintenance Guide

Proper spark plug maintenance is important for reliable engine performance. A good spark plug should be clean, intact, and properly gapped to ensure efficient combustion.

⚠️ Caution: Improper maintenance may cause reduced fuel efficiency, engine misfires, difficulty starting, or damage to the spark plug threads.

Step 1: Remove the Spark Plug Cap

Firmly pull the spark plug cap straight off the spark plug to disconnect it.

Step 2: Remove the Spark Plug

Use the spark plug wrench included with the generator to loosen and remove the spark plug from the engine.

Step 3: Inspect the Spark Plug

Carefully inspect the spark plug for any signs of damage or excessive wear.

Look for:

• Cracks or chips in the porcelain

• Heavy carbon deposits

• Damaged threads

If the spark plug is damaged, replace it with a new one. Recommended replacements include F6RTC or NGK BPR6ES spark plugs. However, please always refer to your owners manual to confirm which spark plug is needed for your unit. 

Step 4: Measure the Spark Plug Gap

Use a spark plug gap gauge to measure the distance between the electrodes.

The correct gap should be 0.7–0.8 mm (0.028–0.031 in.).

Step 5: Clean and Adjust the Gap

If reusing the spark plug, clean it with a wire brush to remove dirt or carbon buildup.

After cleaning, adjust the gap if necessary to ensure it falls within the recommended range.

Step 6: Reinstall the Spark Plug

Thread the spark plug back into the engine by hand first to avoid cross-threading. Then tighten it securely using the spark plug wrench.

Step 7: Reattach the Spark Plug Cap

Push the spark plug cap firmly back onto the spark plug until it is securely connected.
