What kind of battery do your electric start engines use?

Our DuroMax engines will be capable of hooking directly to any 12V battery with appropriate cranking amps.

Does the electric start engine charge the battery?

Yes, the electric start engines will recharge the battery while the engine is running. The XP7HPE, XP16HPE, and XP18HPE will output a 1.5 amp charge. The XP23HPE and XP35HPE will output a 3 amp charge.

The low oil sensor can be disconnected by locating the yellow or black wire that's leading into the crankcase block, and following the wire away from the block until you locate the first plastic green wire connector on the line. After locating the gr

Does the engine shaft run clockwise or counter-clockwise?

All our DuroMax engines will have a counter-clockwise rotation if facing the engine shaft.

Does the engine have a case iron cylinder sleeve?

Yes, all our DuroMax and DuroStar engines are equipped with a cast iron cylinder sleeve.

How do I separate the key switch from the engine?

The key switch can be separated from the engine by extending each of the color coded wires, and leading a ground wire from the bare metal on the key switch to the bare metal of the engine block.

What type of oil cooling do your engines have?

Our single cylinder engines will have splash oil cooling. Our V-Twin engines will have both splash and pressure oil cooling, and an oil cooler.

What is the break in recommendation for our engines?

During the first 6 to 8 hours of use with our engines we recommend using conventional oil ; then after the break in period is complete we'd recommend changing the oil with either synthetic or conventional oil.

What weight oil should be used in our engines?

Our engine models can use either 30W, 10W-30, or 5W-30 oil in synthetic or conventional depending on climate. Please see the manual for further information.

What type of gasoline is recommended in our engines?

We recommend using clean, fresh, unleaded gasoline with an 87 Octane or greater with a 10% or less ethanol. Ethanol free gasoline is preferred if available.
