How Do I Connect My Generator to My Home?
Most DuroMax generator models can be connected to a home electrical system using one of the following methods:
Interlock Kit
GenerLink™ Meter-Mounted Transfer Switch
2-Pole Manual Transfer Switch
These connection methods allow the generator to safely supply power to your home during an outage while preventing unsafe backfeeding into utility lines.
Inverter Generator Note
If you are using a DuroMax inverter generator, the system may require a 3-pole transfer switch due to the electrical configuration of inverter models.
Professional Installation Recommended
⚠ We strongly recommend consulting a licensed electrician when installing a generator connection to your home.
A certified electrician can help determine the best solution for your setup and ensure:
Proper wiring
Safe operation
Compliance with local electrical codes
Common Generator Connection Methods
Interlock Kit
An interlock kit installs directly on your main electrical panel and prevents the main breaker and generator breaker from being on at the same time.
GenerLink™
GenerLink is a meter-mounted transfer switch installed between your electric meter and the meter socket, allowing you to plug the generator directly into the device.
Manual Transfer Switch
A manual transfer switch allows you to select which circuits in your home will receive power from the generator during an outage.
Important Safety Notice
Generators should never be plugged directly into a household outlet. This can cause dangerous backfeeding and serious electrical hazards.
